Horsemen

Students can pursue any field of study. Scholarships are for tuition only, up to $6000 per year for up to four years.  Multiple scholarships will be awarded.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must

• be 24 years old or younger as of September 1 of the application year,
• have at least a 2.85 cumulative GPA,
• have an annual household income of less than $50,000 OR be financially independent from parents.*
  
Supporting materials that must accompany a completed application include:

0 Essay on one of the following two topics:

(1) Describe the world you live in and how that world shaped who you are.
(2) Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

0 A brief description of your career goals and how you plan to achieve them;

0 Two letters of reference 

0 Official transcript from high school for high school seniors or college for those currently in college;

0 Copy of acceptance letter from the college or university you will attend (for high school seniors);

0 Either your parent/guardian's previous year’s tax return and current year’s W2 form OR the current year’s tax return. (Additional years may be requested.);

0 Student Aid Report (from FAFSA) and/or financial aid award letter(s) (including other scholarship awards).


Applicants apply online.  Applications will be reviewed by The Race For Education Selection Committee and finalists contacted for a personal interview. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Board of Directors, and all applicants will be notified by May 31st each year. *To be considered financially independent, a student must be at least 23 years old OR married OR a veteran OR an orphan OR have dependents of his or her own. Applicants who have been legally emancipated must provide documentation indicating such. No exceptions will be considered.

Thoroughbred

The Race For Education offers two main types of scholarships, the Thoroughbred Scholarship and the Horsemen’s Scholarship. The Thoroughbred Scholarship is available to students from any background wishing to pursue a career in pre-veterinary medicine (equine practice only), equine science, racetrack management, equine business management or pasture management as it pertains to horse farms, and other related fields. (Riding certification programs are not eligible.) Students may apply for only ONE of the two scholarships.

Winner's Circle

The Winner's Circle Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and support veterinary students intending to enter equine veterinary medicine, to reward leadership and participation in Student Chapters of the AAEP (SCAAEP) and to help offset the escalating cost of veterinary education and minimize debt load at graduation by providing financial aid to students in their 4th year of veterinary school. These scholarships will benefit deserving students through partnership between the AAEP Foundation AND The Race For Education. It could potentially foster loyalty to the AAEP, the AAEP Foundation, The Race For Education and the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industries. The goal of this program is to award one scholarship per year to a deserving student at each of the 34 Colleges of Veterinary Medicine throughout North America and the West Indies that sponsors a national chapter of SCAAEP. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must:
• be a national AAEP student member and active within their school’s AAEP chapter;
• currently attend an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine;
• apply during their 3rd year for funding during their 4th year of veterinary curriculum.
