National merit scholarships
When it comes to merit scholarships rewarding talent is the number one goal. Merit scholarships are granted as a prize or recognition for academic, athletic or artistic merit, it is given to those applicants who have outstanding performances in an specific field or in general and although sometimes financial need maybe consider as reason to grant this scholarship it is not the main reason.
Students that are eligible for a merit scholarships not only have to search for the right scholarship to apply for ( some times more than one) but also need to be prepare, organize, they need to write a winning essay, have grate recommendation letters and an excellent scholarship interviews.
A good tip is to identify the criteria that the evaluation committee will use to select the winner and then tailored your application to match what they are looking for so you have more options when applying. You need to make sure your application and materials contain all relevant information the scholarship committee need to evaluate you as a possible candidate otherwise you will probably just be dismiss as a candidate.
For those U.S. students that meet the requirements needed for a merit, national scholarship the National merit scholarship program can also be an option. This merit scholarships program began in 1955 and is awarded by the National merit scholarship Corporation, a non-profitable organization. This program require you to be enroll full time as a high school student, be a U.S citizen, take the SAT but is a grate opportunity if you meet the entry requirements.
If you don't meet the requirements for a merit scholarship is better if you keep looking for a type of scholarship where you do qualify. Since most scholarships committees get so many applicants that do qualify and the selection process is expensive and long, they really don't take the time or have the resources to also analyze those applicants who almost meet the requirements for the merit scholarships.
