News Editor
The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care/TheHorse.com has an immediate opening for an on-site News Editor. The position requires a solid working knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, and problems associated with horse health. The News Editor develops fresh news content to be included across The Horse brand’s dissemination platforms, including the website, e-newsletters, and printed publications. This individual will develop, cultivate, and maintain news sources in all corners of the industry, commercial and academic, domestic and international, working with a network of freelance writers to build and schedule original content. The News Editor must be able to write clearly and concisely on topics related to equine health, care, management, and welfare. Strong editing skills and an inquisitive mind are essential, as the successful candidate must be able to grasp relevant scientific/research-based concepts and “translate” them into clearly written practical explanations and recommendations for horse owners. The News Editor will also prepare special reports for publication in print and online, and will post real-time news, images, and video online through a content management system. Other duties will include on-camera reporting, proofreading, working on galley proofs, and helping with the weekly and monthly electronic newsletters. A passion for social media (Facebook and Twitter), a strong command of technology and the ability to easily learn new programs, and a mastery of Adobe Creative Suite 3/Microsoft Office products are strongly preferred.
